Dare to Repair: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Fixing (Almost) Anything in The Home
By Julie Sussman and Stephanie Glakas-Tenet
Harper Collins, 2002 272 Pages

Readers welcome this do-it-yourself book for the complete novice at home repair.  Never condescending in tone, this accessible book will equip anyone with the skills necessary for basic home repair no matter how klutzy he or she is with a screwdriver or hammer.  Co-authored by Julie Sussman, wife of a CIA employee and Stephanie Glakas-Tenet, wife of George Tenet former Director of the CIA, this well-organized guide explains in step-by-step text some 75+ simple home repairs including such tasks as unclogging a sink, clearing a gutter or downspout, and installing a smoke detector.

Each section in the book includes an anecdote, tools needed, clear illustrations, instructions for each task or repair, and important safety tips.  The authors have included sections on making homes safe for seniors and children as well as guidelines for locating a contractor for projects that may be too difficult.  In addition there is a section listing resources with contact information.  Finally, there is an excellent index.  Dare to Repair is available on-line and in bookstores, and don’t forget to check your local library.  FAB gives this work a definite A+.
